The second edition of Morocco's open national spearfishing competition was held on Sunday 27 September 2026 at Mdarba beach in Taghazout, north of Agadir. It was organised by the Sea Lovers Association for Spearfishing and Environment Protection, which staged the first edition a year earlier.
The competition was open, meaning entry was not restricted by club or by region. Teams of two came from clubs along the whole coast, among them the host association in Agadir, the Diving and Marine Sports Club of Tangier and the Mazaquatique association of El Jadida. Competitors started from the beach and hunted the ground they could reach by swimming.
Conditions were difficult. Visibility was close to zero for most of the session, and several competitors ended up shooting from the surface rather than working the bottom. Those who returned with a significant catch were, for the most part, the divers with real experience of hunting in poor visibility.
The event was run with the Wilaya of the Souss-Massa region, the commune of Taghazout and the regional multiservice company as official partners. Civil Protection, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces and Red Crescent first-aiders were present throughout. Organisation and turnout were both reported as good.
The weigh-in was held on the beach at the close of the session, each pair presenting its catch as a team. Scoring and judging followed before any result was announced. A trophy was awarded for the largest single fish of the day, and every diver who finished received a medal.
Lahsen Sabri and Said Oumast, of the Sea Lovers Association in Agadir, took first place. Ahmed Saidi and Mohsen El Bakkali of the Diving and Marine Sports Club of Tangier finished second, and Reddad Serhani and Ahmed Bakkali of the Maza Aquatic association of El Jadida third. The biggest fish of the competition also went to the Tangier pair. Congratulations to all three.
